Acne Medicine-Top New Developments

Friday, July 9th, 2010
Ingrid Lihan asked:

Acne medicine is developing as fast as the understanding of what causes acne and how best to treat the causes. The unfortunate truth about acne is that the treatment in the past has usually not been as effective as it could have been because it was not treating the underlying true cause of the condition. For example, eliminating chocolate and cheese from the diet doesn’t stop the outbreaks of acne. However, smart nutritional habits are good for your skin health and the overall health of those with acne and those who are acne free as well.

Hormonal Therapy

Fluctuating hormone levels have been found to be a significant factor in the severity of acne formation on the skin, particularly when it is adult acne. This is found quite commonly as a cause of acne in adult females from ages 25 to 35. Acne medicine prescribed with the purpose of inhibiting the stimulation of androgens on the sebaceous glands. Unfortunately, not all acne specialists are familiar with this type of remedy. It requires oral medication and monitoring by blood tests. However, if other treatment isn’t working well, you may want to consider pursuing this treatment modality. Even some severe cases have shown surprising results after hormone treatment.

Light Treatment

Light treatment is a nontraditional acne medicine that has become popular in recent years. It is also known as blue light. This is a treatment using high intensity lights that acts in a similar manner to ultraviolet light when it is used in a water purification system. The bacteria population on the skin is bathed in blue light in a series of treatment sessions. This results in a reduction of the number of bacteria. The practice of using UV lights has been discontinued because of its tendency to damage the skin.

Topical Remedies

Dapsone is a typical prescription that is commonly accepted as an effective treatment for severe or inflammatory acne. In addition, the sulfone derivative is effective in treating acne and other skin disorders. The topical form of the antibacterial agent is now used in the treatment of acne blemishes that fall in the range of moderate to mild lesions from acne. The purpose of acne medicine in the topical form is to reduce the number of bacteria found on the skin. Other antibiotics and topical remedies have the purpose of soothing and healing the skin.

Treating Cystic Acne

Acne medicine focused on the treatment for cystic acne is caused by clogged oil ducts. The clogged ducts typically become infected. Common medications are focused on eliminating or at least reducing the bacteria that is common to the skin. Any treatment must be based on reduction of bacteria, slowing or stopping the production of oil through destruction of the glands or controlling the hormone production. The third major component of treating cystic acne is to provide for cleansing of the skin so that new outbreaks are reduced or eliminated. This threefold approach eliminates most of the causative factors for the condition.

Do Acne Products Really Work?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010
Robert Kokoska asked:

Many people want to know if acne products really work? In the old days you could only get your non prescription acne products from the drug store but now in the information age there are so many different acne medications available from a great many sources. How many of us have been awake to see the late night infomercials on acne treatments that are supposed to have been developed by some brilliant doctor selling for $39.95 a bottle.

Then there are the numerous books as well as countless articles that boast that they have discovered the latest magical acne cure. And lets not forget that all natural acne cure recipe that can be provided for download for only $9.99. There are also those infamous best acne treatments list here or the we have the cure for acne there that get peoples attention because of the definite need.

Dont get me wrong. I am not at all a skeptic, I just know that what may be a cure for one persons acne may only be a treatment for someone elses. One person may be allergic to some home remedies for acne while others have responded well to laser treatment. Everyone needs to find a treatment that is best for them. The best treatment for some peoples acne is to use laser treatment. This is often expensive and not covered by insurance because it is considered cosmetic. I have met people that were happy with the results. They felt more confident and there the results were immediate where as using acne medications took time.

Many people opt for the expensive over the counter acne products and medication this way seems to work best for them and they are patient and when they see results they are happy and if not they are open to other forms of acne treatment. Watching those late night infomercials with the before and after photo shots and tearful testimonials is very convincing. I mean some of these products are reasonable while some are not but it is worth a try for people who have been plagued sometimes for years with this unsightly and uncomfortable skin condition.

Then there is good old fashion witch hazel and benzoyl peroxide that you can get over the counter in most drug stores to use for an acne treatment. People that suffer with mild cases of acne respond well with common natural acne treatments. Natural acne treatments are a favorite for some because they are less abrasive, contain less chemicals and rejuvenate the skin.

There is some acne treatment, medication, product, out on the market that has worked for someone at some time or another. All acne treatments work for all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but never all of the people all of the time. So people need to research and try many available acne products and acne treatments until they find one that works well for them.

Baby Acne – It Is Fairly Common

Sunday, June 13th, 2010
Kenneth Scott asked:

Although new parents are often concerned about the occurrence of acne in their children, it is actually a very common condition in babies. More than 30 percent of babies are either born with acne or develop a rash very soon after their birth. Acne in babies generally starts when they are round about three weeks old.

This condition can last until a child is approximately four to six months old in some cases. Some research studies have indicated that baby acne is most frequently caused by hormones that are passed from the mother to the baby through the placenta before birth. The studies have also found that these hormones actually stimulate the oil glands of the babys skin and result in acne.

Sometimes, the baby will have pimples, but most baby acne occurs in the form of a red rash. Whiteheads are very common as well. The face is usually the most common site of baby acne, but the condition may also appear on the arms and chest. In some cases, acne in babies can become severe. This is often the case when a baby is agitated such as when he or she has become over-heated, or if some illness is involved. If there is irritation to the babys skin, the irritation will cause the acne to get worse. Therefore, it is important that any towels and bibs that will come into contact with the baby are not washed in harsh detergents. Additionally, some experts have suggested that parents always carefully remove saliva or milk from their babys face to avoid the possibility of further irritation in that area as well.

The spread of baby acne can be controlled if parents make a point of washing the childs face with a mild baby soap and water. There is no need for parents to search for a cure for baby acne. It is a common condition that, with time, will clear up on its own. It is also important that parents do not apply oils or medications to the babys affected skin. These applications will not help, and they may even worsen the skins condition.

Of course, parents should always make sure that their babys skin condition is really baby acne and not a sign of another problem such as an allergy. If they suspect that their baby is having an allergic reaction, parents should try to find the source of the irritation and remove it.

Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne skin problems. This appears mostly in teenagers and quite rarely in adults. The main area is the face. There are home remedies for cystic acne but tend to take more time to heal it or you can take a prescription from your dermatologist for some drugs to clear it.

Cystic acne appears mostly because the oil ducts get clogged and it creates an abscess. The biggest mistake people make is to popping and squeezing the zits. This creates scars which are more difficult to get rid of.

The most commonly used drug for severe acne is Isotretinoin. This help treat the clogged pore inflammation, excess of oil produced and the acne appearance. However, it has some bad side effects for your health, like eczema, dry skin, rashes, dry mouth, so you better check it out before you take it.

For women, a great treatment for cystic acne is taking the contraceptive pill. This will help balance your hormone level in your body and help reduce the production of sebaceous glands in your body. The downside effect is gaining weight during treatment.

There are lots of home remedies for cystic acne out there, and the most common ones are using a mango paste for your face, using lemon juice mixed with water o the inflammation areas, putting over your face a paste made from neem leaves with turmeric for 30 minutes, applying some groundnut oil or lavender oil on the affected areas, etc.

Other good things to followed is to wash your face at least twice daily with a cleanser special made for acne ski condition. This contains 5% benzyl peroxide which helps clear the bacteria.

Keeping a way from foods like chocolate, junk foods, sugar, oily foods will diminish your cystic acne condition rapidly. The diet that we eat influence heavily the quality on which some glands work and our skin appearance.
