Here is one of our clients Margy who suffers from severe acne. Therefore we are going to be treating Margys Acne with a course of treatments over a period of about 6 months from chemical peels to laser treatments..What causes acne? The main cause of acne are the hormones that we produce from puberty. They stimulate the sebaceous glands in our skin causing increased production of oil and changing the cells in the duct leading out to the skin. The cells in the duct stick together forming a plug that blocks the duct, the gland then blows up like a balloon. The pimples created are infected. Antibiotics help; squeezing can cause scarring. What are blackheads-black comedones? Plugs forming near the entrance of the duct contain melanin, are black in colour, dilate the entrance (look large) and have small tunnels inside them allowing oil to escape on to the skin. This relieves the pressure and they do not blow up like a balloon. What are whiteheads-white comedones? Plugs forming deeper in the duct are white and not porous. No oil can escape. Everyone gets frustrated when trying to treat their acne. Dr. Z urges you to be patient and wait at least four to six weeks of your new treatment before changing it. It takes the skin that amount of time to turn over and bring the new skin to the surface. So it is not uncommon you will not see results for over a month. Stick with it! Dr.Ann Zedlitz MD is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center and runs the Laser clinic services. She is also in private practice in Baton Rouge, La. She practices general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology with a special interest in anti-aging and acne treatment. www.facebook.com

Do vitamins improve acne? Dr. Z recommends vitamins to her patients all the time. The best way to get vitamins are from your food. If you do not eat healthy all the time, you can take a multi vitamin. Dr. Z also recommends vitamin C as an anti-oxidant. Try to purchase the time release capsel. Also, an apple a day, may keep the acne away! Cleaning your face with acne! If you are washing your face, you dont have acne because your face it dirty! Acne is not caused by a dirty face. Increased oil production and genetics are some of contributing the factors to acne. You need to cleanse your face in a gentle manner. Scrubbing your face causes irritation which causes inflammation which worsens acne. So cleanse, but do it gently! Dr. Z, from her own experience, is dedicated and passionate to improving the lives of people who are insecure about their skin.
